William Alba

Carnegie Mellon University
Assistant Dean for Diversity, MCS
At Carnegie Mellon University I direct two academic programs and am a fellow with the STUDIO for Creative Inquiry. I've previously taught with Bard College, St. John's College in Santa Fe, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and Phillips Academy.

My recent teaching portfolio includes a history of ideas seminar on the circle through Western classics in philosophy, mathematics, astronomy, architecture, physics, and literature; a team-taught course on energy from the perspectives of science, society, and communication; and a project-based class on time capsules and communication with potential extraterrestrial intelligence. I am active in general education revision and academic program development.

In addition to the projects mentioned in my HASTAC 2015 talk, I am developing other work that spans the humanities, engineering, science, and design.
