My current research explores the material grounds of digital phenomena through aesthetic means. This project stems from process-oriented interviews that I conducted with forty contemporary media artists. Responding to prominent themes that emerged through a discourse analysis of the interviews, my research outlines a series of aesthetic and interpretive strategies that artists are employing as a means of capturing and conceptualizing the materiality of the digital. Mapping these practices across recent developments in the field of media studies and theory, I aim to develop a grounded theoretical account of ‘digital materiality’.
